After much consultation, the International Federat

After much consultation, the International Federation of Muaythai Associations (IFMA) confirmed the postponement of international events until further notice.
As previously mentioned, the Pan Am Championship originally set in Lima, Peru this week has been postponed with the safety of organizers, volunteers, athletes, coaches, and travellers in mind.

The IFMA World Championship originally set for early June in Abu Dhabi is to be postponed for late October or early November. Organizers in Abu Dhabi are taking measures to limit the spread of COVID-19, and are working closely with IFMA to ensure athletes have fair access to this qualification event.

At this time, the IFMA Youth Championship is intended to continue with its scheduled dates of September 18-27, 2020.

The International World Games Association (IWGA) is also taking into consideration the cancellation of qualifying events this year that lead up to The World Games 2021. They are in discussions with sport federations at this time.

More updates are to be expected within the next few weeks as more advisories come in. IFMA and Muaythai Canada will take into consideration any travel advisories in place, and keep nak muay updated.

Happy Nai Kanom Tom Day! This was the origin of Muay Thai as we now know it. We must give thanks for our beautiful sport. Thank your Kru's and teachers today! "Happy Nai Kanom Tom Day! Nai Kanom Tom, a warrior from Thailand, was captured after the Burmese sacked the city in 1767. His fighting style intrigued King Mangra, the Burmese king, who demanded a tournament pitting his own country’s Bondi boxers against the Thai warriors. According to legend, Nai Kanom Tom dazzled his first opponent with a pre-fight dance ritual called Ram Muay. Then he proceeded to pummel him, scoring a quick knockout. But the Burmese fighter cried foul claiming Nai Kanom Tom’s pre-fight dance distracted him. The Burmese king knew that if Nai Kanom Tom could defeat nine more consecutive opponents he would then prove the superiority of his fighting style. Nai Kanom Tom took on fighter after fighter until finally none stood in his way. With these defeats he earned his freedom, an achievement which is celebrated every March 17 as “National Muay Thai Day.” #muaythailife #tradition #history #legend

Due to exceptional circumstances and the evolution

Due to exceptional circumstances and the evolution of COVID-19 in Canada, Muaythai Canada is calling for the suspension of all club activities for a minimum period of two weeks starting today, March 15th. Updates to the recommended closure will be provided, and possibly extended as COVID-19 advisories develop.

With the recent developments concerning the Corona

With the recent developments concerning the Coronavirus COVID-19 (SARS-CoV-2) and consultations with the Olympic Committee, Canadian Sport Institute, Ministries of Sport, and other counsel and stakeholders, Muaythai Canada is suspending all competitive activities at the National, Provincial, and Local levels until further notice.

It is with deep regret that the cancellations will also affect the Canadian National Team with the postponement of next week’s Pan American Championship in Lima, Peru.

We wish the best of health to our Muaythai community, and look forward to bringing you positive news when competitions resume.
